Do you live in a community where people speak a dialect? Do you understand it and/or use it? I'm accustomed to three dialects - Kansai-ben as spoken in Osaka, Nanyo-ben used in Ehime Prefecture.
These days, I'm regularly communicating with people who use the dialect of northern Chiba/southern Ibaraki because many of my elders and neighbors speak it. But I only use a few expressions when I'm talking to my partner who speaks it at home. A weird thing - I make mistakes in written Japanese sometimes because the vowel sounds of i and e in Ibaraki-ben aren't distinct. (corrected title!)
This display in Nagareyama City has vocabulary from the local dialect. I wonder, some of these words are used in other regions, too.
Vowels sounds for i and e aren't distinct.. how do you pronounce it? I'm curious, if you have examples please share ^^ also being able to speak Kansai-ben is cool I think
I've learned 標準語 but I live in Nagoya and so ppl here (especially elders) use Nagoya-ben. I guess I naturally picked up some😅 although I can't really tell what's Nagoya-ben 😅
